Jonathan Reddicks named inaugural recipient of Battalion Chief Earl Dyer Jr. Memorial Scholarship

For Jonathan Reddicks, achievement has always gone hand in hand with responsibility — to his studies, his teammates and his community.

The Northside High School graduate from Roanoke, Virginia, has been named a recipient of the Battalion Chief Earl Dyer Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Reddicks graduated with a 3.9 GPA and earned A/B honor roll recognition throughout his school years. He also distinguished himself as a student-athlete, serving for two years as captain of his football team.

Beyond the classroom and playing field, Reddicks has made community service part of his life. He has volunteered with Brothers in Christ to help feed people experiencing homelessness and has participated in efforts to remove harmful trash and debris from his community.

This fall, Reddicks will attend Liberty University, where he plans to study business administration with a focus on strategic marketing and data analysis.

His combination of scholarship, leadership and concern for others reflects the ideals at the heart of the Battalion Chief Earl Dyer Jr. Memorial Scholarship.

Established by Dyer’s family and the Glorious Church of God in Christ in South Richmond, Virginia, the scholarship honors Dyer’s life of public service as a firefighter, military veteran and community advocate. He believed deeply that education, volunteerism and acts of charity could strengthen communities — and that young people could be important agents of positive change.

By investing in students such as Reddicks, the scholarship seeks to keep that spirit of service moving forward into another generation.
